The new PS5 model is lighter, but also runs at hotter temperatures

Sony's new flagship console is breaking sales records left and right.

This is especially noteworthy when you consider that Sony is struggling to keep up with the demand.

With that said, what is even more surprising is that Sony decided to release a new PS5 model despite the shortage.

You'd be forgiven for not knowing that Sony had already released a new PS5 model.

It came with very little fanfare and there are few visual differences.

The most notable is probably that you can now tighten or loosen the stand screw by hand.

However, what most people don't know is that the new PS5 is lighter by a significant amount.

According to YouTuber, Austin Evans, the lower weight is the result of a smaller heatsink.

Because of the smaller heatsink, Evans describes the new PS5 model as worse compared to the original.

According to Evans' findings, the new PS5 has worse thermal performance compared to the original model.

It will be interesting to see how this will affect the longevity of new PS5 models compared to the original PS5 models.

The upcoming PS5 exclusive, Death Stranding: Director's Cut, might expose just how much worse the new PS5 model is.

Either way, one thing we are sure of is that early PS5 adopters have a reason to gloat.
