The first God of War Ragnarök trailer closes out the September PlayStation Showcase

By Ray Ampoloquio September 9, 2021

The ending of God of War: Ragnarok teased a much larger conflict between the father-and-son duo against the Norse gods.

With a sequel all but confirmed, it was only a matter of time before a gameplay trailer was released.

With millions of fans tuning in to its latest PlayStation Showcase event, Sony did not disappoint.

How exactly God of War: Ragnarok will interpret Ragnarok, or the end of the world, remains to be seen.

However, we do know that the world is very much ending in the God of War sequel.

The first God of War: Ragnarok gameplay trailer teases a much larger adventure than the 2018 title.

It also confirmed that Thor will indeed serve as the game's main antagonist, as well as Freya.

The story of God of War: Ragnarok is set just a few years later after the events of the 2018 title.

It also features a much older and capable Atreus with new powers and abilities.

Kratos also appears to be much more adept at wielding the Leviathan Axe, with more tricks up his sleeve.

A familiar boat will also make its return, along with the ever-lovable Mimir's head.

Unfortunately, Sony did not share a release date in the trailer

However, earlier this year, we learned that the God of War sequel will release in 2022.

A later blog post also confirmed that the next God of War game will release in 2022.

It will be interesting to see if the initial plans do not change.

Horizon Forbidden West is also expected to release in March 2022.

Because of this, Sony might push back God of War: Ragnarok to 2023 instead.

This would leave the door open for that long rumored God of War PC port.
