So much for the decline of theatre-going audiences, the COVID-19 pandemic, and China refusing to approve any MCU movies since 2019's Spider-Man: Far From Home.

Spider-Man: No Way Home just beat Avatar for the third spot at the United States box office.

No Way Home now has an official running total of $760.988 million, which is third after 2019's Avengers: Endgame and 2015's Star Wars: A Force Awakens.

What is perhaps the most interesting part about No Way Home's record is the manner the Sony-Marvel venture achieved it.

Ever since the film premiered on December 17, 2021, No Way Home took the top spot at the domestic box office on six of nine weekends.

One more top weekend would allow it to tie Avatar for first all-time with a second one making it the lone record holder.

No Way Home's success comes as a surprise at a time when films couldn't even come close to breaching the billion-dollar mark.

Not to mention, No Way Home didn't even get a chance to premiere in China at all.

Only time will tell if Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness can come close to matching No Way Home's numbers.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will hit theaters on May 6.
