By Matt Stone June 8, 2021
Microsoft and Sony are currently battling for title of most popular "next" generation console - the PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X.
According to Finbold, it appears that Sony has sold around 8.6 million PS5 consoles at an average price of $499.99, for total revenue of $3.8 billion.
Meanwhile, they estimate that Microsoft has sold 5.12 million units of the Xbox Series X at $399.99 per console, for a total revenue figure of $2.04 billion. Nearly half that of Sony.
Sony has been focusing on the exclusive titles in the PlayStation catalog, including the just released Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart.
On the other hand, Microsoft has been focused on its game subscription service, Xbox Game Pass, and also buying up game studios like Bethesda.
Either way, the "winner" of this new generation of console gaming is far from decided, with supply constraints due to the COVID-19 pandemic also complicating things.
