The MechWarrior series (and BattleTech) games are a Microsoft Franchise.

Naturally, this means that the titles are exclusive to Windows PCs and Xbox Consoles.

However, this wasn't always the case.

There was a time when PlayStation owners could enjoy these games.

More than two decades later, BattleTech fans can finally play a new game on the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 console.

Piranha Games is releasing MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries to the PS4 and PS5 on September 23.

In addition to the base game, the PS4 and PS5 versions of MechWarrior 5 will include the Heroes of the Inner Sphere expansion.

Piranha Games also confirmed that PS5 owners will get to enjoy support for Sony's DualSense adaptive triggers.

The most important bit from the announcement is that MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries will feature cross-platform play.

While the game is mostly a single-player affair with a robust campaign, MechWarrior 5 does have a multiplayer function.
