HBO first announced that it was working on a live-action adaptation of Naughty Dog's The Last of Us in 2020.

More than a year later and HBO has finally dropped its first photo for the upcoming live-action adaptation.

HBO's The Last of Us will star Pedro Pascal as Joel, the playable protagonist in 2013's The Last of Us.

Joining him is Bella Ramsey, who will take on the role of Ellie, a supporting character in the first game and the lead character in 2020's The Last of Us Part II.

Neil Druckmann is set to write and direct HBO's The Last of Us along with Craig Mazin.

To celebrate The Last of Us Day 2021, HBO dropped the first image of The Last of Us TV show.

It shows Pedro's Joel and Bella's Ellie wearing familiar clothing.

The filming of the TV show reportedly began in July 2021 and will last until June 2022.

It will be interesting to see if audiences will like HBO's live-action adaptation of one of PlayStation's best-selling franchises.

HBO's The Last of Us is expected to release some time in 2022.
