Tom Clancy's XDefiant: Release date, beta test, trailer, characters, and more

NEWS

Ubisoft has taken great liberty using the name of the late author, Tom Clancy, in its games.

However, you can't exactly say that the studio has not used its licence well.

Everything from Ghost Recon to Splinter Cell, Rainbow Six, and The Division, has been successful so far.

As absurd as things have gotten lately, one thing that Ubisoft hasn't done yet is to put all of them in the same game.

Technically, Ubisoft did this in the past and to middling success.

The studio's previous attempt, Elite Squad, is going to shut down in October 2021, which doesn't exactly bode well for XDefiant.

Of course, unlike Elite Squad, which was spearheaded by Owlient, the  development for XDefiant will be handled by one of Ubisoft's main studios,

XDefiant is Ubisoft's upcoming free-to-play Tom Clancy game that will  feature 6v6 arena combat played from a first-person shooter perspective.

Ubisoft's surprise XDefiant reveal did not come with a release date. Instead, Ubisoft merely announced  that the game is coming and that an early build will be available for  beta testing on August 5.

As revealed during its initial announcement, the main draw of XDefiant is that it will pull classes and characters from Ubisoft's deep Tom Clancy games catalog.

Starting on August 5, players can sign up for a chance to help out with the development of XDefiant.
