Riot Games' free-to-player hero shooter, VALORANT, has been a huge success so far. Riot's continued and constant support for the game, as well as commitment to make it better, is clear. The company has added more characters and features to VALORANT. However, as popular as the game is right now, VALORANT still has room to grow.
One way that Riot is thinking of making VALORANT even more popular is the addition of a battle royale mode.
While Riot has not officially confirmed that a VALORANT battle royale mode is in the works, a credible leaker claims to have seen it being spotted in China.
Is Valorant Battle Royale Mode Coming Soon?
It's no secret that Tencent owns Riot. While Riot retains complete autonomy over its day-to-day operations, it is incentivized to test out new features and releases in China first. This is why a lot of leaks that eventually come to VALORANT and other Riot games in the west are from China. This one is no exception.
According to PlayerIGN, a prominent personality known for leaking VALORANT character announcements and other important PUBG information, Riot is currently testing a VALORANT battle royale mode in China.
It's worth noting that this isn't the first time that PlayerIGN has talked about the VALORANT battle royale mode. His original Tweet about the rumored mode is dated November 30, 2020. However, nothing would come of this until the leaker uploaded a new video (shown above) on Youtube where he details why he thinks that Riot is working on a battle royale mode for VALORANT.
PlayerIGN explained that he has sources in China that claim Riot has hired PUBG players to test the new mode for VALORANT.
If the rumors are true, then it makes sense why there was talk last year of Riot adding a "downed system" to VALORANT. This particular feature allows players to be revived after entering a "downed" state instead of just dying outright. Other battle royale titles like PUBG and Call of Duty: Warzone use a similar system.
Speaking of VALORANT, as much of a secret as the rumored battle royale mode is, Riot has done a great job at maintaining transparency. Two months ago, the developers announced that it was going to record voice chats in VALORANT to combat toxicity. In addition to this, a mobile version of VALORANT is currently in development with a rumored 2022 release date.
