Star Wars fans are looking forward to the release of Ubisoft’s upcoming open-world game, especially following the success of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. Now, it looks like the newest Star Wars title may be coming sooner than players expect.

Ubisoft’s new title codenamed "Project Helix" could be arriving as early as 2024 if the new rumors are true. The mysterious new Star Wars game is being developed by Ubisoft’s Massive Entertainment, the studio behind the popular The Division series.
Unverified sources have reportedly shared with Kotaku that Ubisoft is targeting an early 2024 release for its open-world Star Wars title. The company hopes to make up for years of delays and games stuck in development hell.
Ubisoft reported its largest operating loss in history earlier this month. The company has promised investors a slate of big upcoming releases for the next fiscal year which runs until March 2024. Ubisoft is preparing for the release of Assassin’s Creed Mirage, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, and the much-delayed Skull and Bones.
The company also revealed that "another large game" will be released in the next 12 months. Anonymous sources have shared that the upcoming title is Ubisoft’s open-world Star Wars game.
Ubisoft first announced the upcoming Star Wars back in 2021. According to creative director Julian Gerighty, Project Helix would be "totally different" from the previous games that Massive worked on. The upcoming title will also be a big departure from other Star Wars games.
There are reports that the new Star Wars game would have a procedurally-generated galaxy similar to No Man’s Sky. We assume that the galaxy would be seeded with procedurally generated worlds alongside handcrafted planets such as Coruscant, Naboo, Endor, and Mandalore.
Sources shared that Ubisoft hopes the open-world Star Wars game will be its first non-Assassin’s Creed blockbuster in years. However, the development of Project Helix reportedly hasn’t been progressing well.
The sources say that the target release for the new Star Wars title is probably too ambitious to pull off. They expect that the game will shop sometime in the next fiscal year which runs from April 2024 to March 2025.
Ubisoft is hosting a big summer showcase on June 12, so we may get more information about the upcoming Star Wars title and other in-development titles at the event.
