Tom Holland to appear in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse

After being a franchise staple, Tom Holland's Spider-Man hasn't been seen in the MCU since 2021's Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Tom Holland hasn't officially signed a new deal to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. According to the latest word on the interwebs, Holland's now-iconic web-slinger is returning to the big screen sooner than expected.

Don't expect Tom Holland to be heavily involved in Across the Spider-Verse if he does make an appearance.

Industry insider, Jeff Sneider, claims that Holland's bughead will appear in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. Sneider is saying that one of the biggest reasons for the film's lengthy delay is to make sure that Holland is in the movie. Finally, Sneider clarifies that he assumes that an "animated Miles" will go to a "live-action dimension with Tom Holland's [Spider-Man]."

On one hand, we're disappointed that Sony isn't going the live-action route with the crossover. It has the resources to pull it off with a body double and have the live-action Miles Morales wear a mask. Then again, doing so would get backlash, so going strictly the animated route makes sense. On the other hand, wouldn't it be easier to have Holland voice an animated version of himself?

At the end of the day, this is all speculation, so we'll just have to wait and see until we get official confirmation or, at the very least, more info.

Several details about the re-appearance of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man in No Way Home came up online in the months leading up to the film's release. If Holland is in Across the Spider-Verse, we can expect more corroboratory details, if not a photo.

Now, if the report is true, audiences would lose their mind at seeing two of arguably the most beloved Spider-Man interpretations at the moment. The movie could end up grossing over one billion dollars based on how much pull this will have among audiences.

After seeing three generations of Spider-Man on screen together two years ago, anything is possible.

Marvel Studios still hasn't confirmed Tom Holland is returning to the MCU.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is expected to premiere in theaters on June 2 with its threequel, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, coming on March 29, 2024. A female-focused spin-off is reportedly in development.

As for Holland, it's rumored that he'll take on the helm as the leader of the Avengers in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.
