Saw is one of the biggest horror franchises in the world with nine films and over one billion in box office earnings. This September, there will be a tenth installment titled Saw X.

The main antagonist of the Saw franchise, John Kramer, also known as Jigsaw, has played both minor and major roles in every Saw installment – apart from Spiral – since the franchise launched in 2004. Despite this, the character has yet to play a central role, until now.

Kevin Greutert, the director of the forthcoming film, recently sat down for an interview with Empire Magazine where he talked about the film. During the interview, Greutert revealed we will see more of Jigsaw in Saw X than in every other Saw installment. He went as far as describing Kramer as the "center of the story" in his film.

The last installment in the franchise, Spiral: From the Book of Saw, which was a spinoff, tried to do away with Jigsaw. It was the first film to do so in the franchise and Greutert noted he wouldn't have done things that way. His approach is the direct opposite of that and will see the character take on a more involved role.

Greutert also said that his film, Saw X, will return to the grittier tone of the franchise's early days. In his words, "This one has pulled back to a somewhat more realistic level. Not maybe Saw I-level simplicity, but close. The more that the audience can get the sense that a smart engineer -- which he is -- could figure out what to do with these parts and make it work, the better."

He further explained that the film will take the audience on a journey with Kramer. So, instead of telling the story from the viewpoint of Kramer's victims, Saw X will tell the story from Kramer's perspective. But then, that doesn't mean the film will be devoid of gore. No! It won't be a Saw film without some good old-fashioned, and inventive way of murdering people.

Saw X is set between the events of the first and second Saw films before Kramer's death. The film will follow Kramer on his journey to Mexico to undergo an experimental treatment in hopes it will cure his cancer. Unfortunately, it turns out this is a scam. There is a bright side, though, and that is the fact that it gives Kramer a new purpose. He dons his serial killer mask and rains chaos on the con artists who are sure to regret their existence.

Saw X will see Tobin Bell reprise his role as Kramer/Jigsaw from earlier in the franchise. It will also see Greutert return to the director's seat, which he occupied for the franchise's sixth and seventh installments.

Saw X will arrive in theaters worldwide on September 29.
