The Russo Brothers, who are widely considered the most successful directors in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, are said to be eyeing a chance to work on James Gunn's new DC universe.

During a recent interview with ComicBook.com, Anthony and Joseph Russo revealed their enthusiasm for directing a film in the revamped DC Universe, particularly expressing their keen interest in directing a Batman film.
Anthony Russo: "We don’t get asked a lot about DC characters."
Joe Russo: "Obviously James over there running it, it would be a no-brainer. We love him to death. We love the direction he's going to take that world in. You know he's gonna be inventive with it. And favorite DC characters? I mean, man. There are so many good ones. I always answer based on the comics I collected as a kid, and the two comics I collected the most were Spider-Man — actually, the three — were Spider-Man. X-Men and Batman. But there have been a lot of iterations of Batman, so I feel like that's an obvious answer."
Anthony Russo: "But, you know, it's hard not to answer that. Here's how you know we haven't actually gotten literal about it and specific about it is because, yeah, Batman would be my favorite character for my entire childhood. But obviously, it's been well explored."
Last year, James Gunn and Peter Safran were named the co-CEOs of DC Studios, and this year, the duo outlined their blueprint for the future of the DC Universe. One of the upcoming projects on their slate of film and TV releases is The Brave and the Bold, which will mark the debut of DCU's iteration of Batman. Gunn has confirmed that the movie will also introduce Damian Wayne as Robin, the son of Bruce Wayne and Talia Al Ghul.
The Russo Brothers are known for their work on Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame. These four films have collectively grossed a staggering $6.7 billion at the box office, making the brothers the most profitable directorial duos in comic book film history.
In addition to their cinematic successes, their work on popular TV shows like Happy Endings, Community, and Arrested Development has also earned critical acclaim, with the latter earning them a Primetime Emmy Award.
Currently, no director has been confirmed for DCU's The Brave and the Bold, leaving the door open for the Russo Brothers to potentially helm the Batman film. As we wait for updates on that front, fans can look forward to the release of the duo's upcoming Prime Video sci-fi series, Citadel, which is set to premiere on April 28.
