The Matrix Awakens leaks for the PlayStation 5

We might be getting a new Matrix experience in the days leading up to the premiere of The Matrix Resurrections.

The Matrix Resurrections is set to premiere in theaters and on HBO Max on December 22. However, in the days leading up to the fourth Matrix film's launch, it appears that Warner Bros. and Sony are cooking up something that's described as an "Unreal Engine 5 experience".

The Matrix Awakens might end up being everyone's first chance to play through an Unreal Engine 5 game.

What is The Matrix Awakens?

We're sure that The Matrix Awakens is effectively just an interactive ad for The Matrix Resurrections.

As spotted by eagle-eyed users on r/GamingLeaksAndRumours, there is an image found in the back end of the PlayStation Network with zero other details outside of the description that it is a PlayStation 5 product with the title "The Matrix Awakens".

Because of the mystery surrounding this "Unreal Engine 5 experience", users have begun speculating as to the nature of this product.

Epic Games first revealed Unreal Engine 5 back in May 2020 and is technically still in early access. It sees a marked leap in graphical performance from Unreal Engine 4, as evidenced by the Black Myth: Wukong trailer that was released a few months ago.

Meanwhile, developers such as Psyonix and The Coalition have all promised to use Unreal Engine 5 in their future games. But, despite all of these announcements and reveals, there isn't a playable demo let alone a game made out of Unreal Engine 5 at the moment.

With that said, fans are understandably hyped if The Matrix Awakens ends up being the first Unreal Engine 5 demo to be released for the PS5.

Unfortunately, there is no way to know for sure what The Matrix Awakens is until it is revealed. We don't know when this will happen either. It can be anytime between today and December 22, which is when the long-awaited fourth entry in The matrix franchise will release. However, if we are to speculate further, The Game Awards is set to begin on December 9, so maybe Sony and Warner Bros. are sitting on this until then.

In other The Matrix news, Keanu Reeves just revealed why he agreed to return for a fourth film.
