Lucasfilm announced that a new Mandalorian movie is in development, which will serve as a finale/crossover movie for The Book of Boba Fett, Ahsoka, and others. According to the studio, the movie features a "climactic story event" that unites the TV shows.
The Mandalorian debuted in 2019 and has been well-received by audiences and critics. The Disney+ series is currently in its third season which concludes on April 19, 2023. A fourth season is currently being developed according to executive producer Jon Favreau.
The upcoming film was announced at the Star Wars Celebration 2023 alongside two other movies: Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi and Star Wars: New Jedi Order. What we know about The Mandalorian
The upcoming Mandalorian movie project is still in pre-production and only a few details have been revealed by Lucasfilm. The movie will continue the narrative of the Disney+ series and will wrap up the plot of the TV show.
The Mandalorian is set in between the events of the original and sequel trilogies and follows the story of Din Djarin, a lone bounty hunter known as The Mandalorian. The series added Bo Katan as a main character in the third season of the TV series.
The new movie is also seen as the conclusion to the overarching narrative of The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, and Ahsoka. The film will likely answer questions about the fate of Grand Admiral Thrawn, the resurrection of Emperor Palpatine, the state of the Mandalorains, and the future of Djarin’s sidekick Grogu.
The Mandalorian will be directed by Dave Filoni, a protégé of George Lucas. Filoni is a veteran of the Star Wars franchise having worked on Star Wars: Clone Wars, Rebels, Resistance, Bad Batch, and Tales of the Jedi. He is also credited with writing, directing, and producing The Mandalorian and Ahsoka TV series.
Pedro Pascal will likely reprise his role as Din Djarin alongside Katee Sackhoff as Bo-Katan Kryze. It is likely that the movie will also cast Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka Tano and Temuera Morrison as Boba Fett. Fennec Shand may also be part of the movie as Ming-Na Wen.
No official cast or release date announcements have been made as of writing.
