Eric Kripke is teasing Season 5 of The Boys

Eric Kripke is currently directing the final episode of The Boys Season 4 but he's teasing at least one more season of the main series.

With its fourth season currently filming, the satire superhero television show, The Boys, is one of Prime Video’s most successful shows. It had 10.6 billion minutes streamed in 2022, and is currently the most-watched show on the streaming platform, ahead of one of the most expensive shows ever made in Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, which cost over $700 million to make.

The Boys is Prime Video's most streamed show in 2022.

Now, in what will be welcome news to the show’s fans, showrunner Eric Kripke has confirmed, via his official Twitter handle, that it will continue beyond the forthcoming season. In the tweet, he stated, "I'm here to prep & direct the Season 4 finale. No, not the series finale, there will be more!"

While Kripke’s tweet seemingly confirms that Prime Video will renew the show for at least one more season, the studio is yet to provide an official confirmation that backs up his claim.

Kripke’s message about future installments is the latest in a long line of his tweets that have helped to keep fans up to date on the show’s progress. When filming began last year, the director took to social media to announce it. Alongside this, he posted a picture that confirmed the first episode is titled Department of Dirty Tricks. Kripke similarly revealed in early February that The Boys season 4 finale will be titled Assassination Run.

The Boys is based on the eponymous comic book series by Darick Robertson and Garth Ennis. It follows a vigilante group named the Boys, who have a shared hatred for superheroes and, as a result, work to destroy them alongside the Sups ally, a powerful corporation that protects them, Vought International.

Karl Urban, Stefan Steen, Nick Barrucci, Hartley Gorenstein, Gabriel Garcia, and Jake Deuel all serve as producers. Kripke also takes on executive producer duties alongside Seth Rogen, James Weaver, Evan Goldberg, Ori Marmur, Craig Rosenberg, Pavun Shetty, and Phil Sgricca, among others.

Urban also returns as William Billy Butcher alongside Anthony Starr who plays John/Homelander. Other stars who will reprise their roles include Jack Quaid, Anthony Star, Erin Moriarty, Dominique McElligott, Jessie T. Usher, Laz Alonso, Chace Crawford, Tomer Capone, Karen Fukuhara, Nathan Mitchell, and Jensen Ackles. The show also added new cast members, including Rob Benedict, Elliot Knight, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan in undisclosed roles, as well as Valorie Curry, Susan Heyward, and Rosemary DeWitt as Firecracker, Sister Sage, and Mrs. Campbell respectively.

In other news, Prime Video gave a sneak peek into The Boys spinoff, Gen V, with a trailer released last December. The live-action series, set to take place around the same time as the forthcoming season 4, will follow teenage superheroes in Godolkin University of Crimefighting. While the show is slated for release sometime in 2023, the exact release date remains unconfirmed.

All episodes of The Boys are currently available on Amazon Prime Video.
