The Boys Season 4 will start production this summer

Karl Urban just revealed that Season 4 of The Boys will start filming soon, hinting at a potential 2023 release.

Amazon Prime Video's hit satirical superhero series, The Boys, has been the talk of the town since it premieres a few years ago. Season 3, in particular, has been arguably the show's most successful yet. After a two-year-long wait, audiences finally got a chance to check out what can be best described as a high-budget mockumentary of the superhero genre and society, in general.

The Boys Season 4 might be here much earlier than expected.

The Boys uses a combination of shocking content as well as a deep and rich world to stay at the top of fans' minds. So, it's not surprising that Amazon Prime Video isn't keen on resting on its laurels. The show got its first spin-off earlier this year, The Boys Presents: Diabolical. In addition to this, Amazon Prime Video has greenlit a live-action spin-off show starring Patrick Schwarzenegger, The Boys Presents: Varsity, which will revolve around college-aged Supes.

While there's still no word when the second The Boys spin-off will arrive, Karl Urban might have just confirmed that we won't have to wait too long for Season 4.

Earlier this year, Karl Urban already revealed that The Boys Season 4 will start production in late 2022. However, after greenlighting the fourth season and seeing the success of Season 3, it appears that Amazon has moved up the timeline. In an interview with Collider, Urban, who plays Billy Butcher, the foul-mouthed mercenary leader of the titular anti-Supes group, claims that production will start rolling on August 22.

In the comic books, The Boys' leader, Billy Butcher, ends up becoming the main antagonist near the ends of its run.

Here's what Urban had to say said about The Boys Season 4:

Yeah, we're starting I think August the 22nd, we're going to be starting season four. So I'm getting back, getting my Butcher back on, and I can't wait. It's a fun gang to play with, we work hard and play hard, and I can't wait to see where they take the characters from where we leave them at the end of this season."

Unfortunately, Urban hasn't seen the script yet, so he couldn't exactly drop a hint or two about what's next for The Boys. Not to mention, seeing how far The Boys has deviated from the comic books, we can't exactly say for sure that the source material will dictate its future.

Regardless of what we'll see in Season 4 of The Boys, the most important thing right now is the production date.

If Season 4 starts filming in August, Season 4 could very well premiere in 2023. Even better, we could be in for two live-action The Boys shows next year. The Boys Presents: Varsity has been filming since May and will end in October. If all goes well, Amazon Prime Video could do what it did earlier this year by releasing a spin-off first before the main show arrives. This would mean that we wouldn't have to wait too long in between The Boys' seasons, but we're getting a two-for-one special, or so to speak.

For now, though, it's best that we enjoy what's in front of us.

With only two more episodes left, we should savor every remaining moment of The Boys Season 3.

So far, Season 3 of The Boys has delivered some of the series' best episodes yet, including a showdown between Homelander and Soldier Boy. With Butcher throwing both caution and his morals to the wind by relying on a drug to level the playing field, it's all downhill from here. The good news is that Urban's involvement suggests that The Boys will not turn their back on their leader just yet. But, we have an inkling that Season 4 will set Butcher up to be the final baddie of the series.
