The Boys tops Rings of Power as biggest Prime Video show

Amazon reportedly spent a billion for the production of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings Power, which has been renewed for a second season.

Fans pitted Prime Video's The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power and HBO's House of the Dragon against each other for months. But, as it turns out, The Boys might have been a more worthy contender.

Karl Urban couldn't help but celebrate the success of the latest season of The Boys.

As per the Nielsen ratings, The Boys was the most streamed show on Prime Video with 10.6 billion minutes streamed, which is a lot when you compare it to The Rings of Power at 9.4 billion. Both are the only Prime Video showed that joined the Top 15 most streamed Original content last year. The rest of the list is dominated by Netflix.

Interestingly enough, only a single HBO Max program joined the list, which is Friends, at 14.54 billion minutes streamed.

Most likely, HBO Max shows don't crack these types of lists much because the viewership is halved between HBO Max and HBO.

Ultimately, the numbers likely won't change anyone's mind over at Amazon. Both The Boys and The Rings of Power will be getting new seasons. However, it's interesting that The Rings of Power didn't get more viewers despite all of the marketing it received and the fact that it cost Amazon so much. The Boys is clearly the more cost-effective product and, you could say that it's the better show of the two.

At the end of the day, having The Boys and The Rings of Power goes a long way in helping Prime Video secure even more memberships.

The Boys has already spawned one animated spin-off and at least one more upcoming spin-off.

Going forward, Amazon is investing a lot in its shows to compete with Netflix and Disney+. In addition to Season 4 of The Boys, and Season 2 of The Rings of Power, Amazon is also working on live-action adaptations of God of War, Tomb Raider, Warhammer 40K, Fallout, and It Takes Two as well as Mass Effect.

Prime Video subscribers are currently waiting for updates regarding Season 2 of Invincible.
