Netflix confirms movie-like Stranger Things Season 4 episode runtimes

The fourth season of Stranger Things is the series' most expensive yet, but it's also set to be one of its longest as well.

With only two seasons left for one of its most popular shows, Netflix is rightfully spending mightily on the fourth season of Stranger Things.

150 minutes puts the Stranger Things Season 4 finale firmly in Avengers: Endgame territory.

Now, the streaming giant just revealed where the bulk of the budget went.

According to an official blog post, the seventh episode of Season 4 of Stranger Things will come in at one hour and 38 minutes, and we're just getting started. The final two episodes will come in at one hour and 25 minutes and almost two and a half hours, respectively. To put that into context, the longest episode of Stranger Things is the Season 3 finale at 77 minutes. Furthermore, at around 150 minutes, the Season 4 finale will be as long as last year's Spider-Man: No Way Home movie.

All told, Stranger Thing's fourth season will run well over 13 hours, a terribly long affair but a risk that might be well worth it.

If it's any consolation, Netflix will not drop all nine episodes of the latest Stranger Things season at once. The season's first seven episodes will drop on May 27, followed by the last two episodes on July 1.

With a movie's worth of content for each of the final three episodes of Stranger Things this season, Netflix is pulling out all stops. The platform continues to bleed subscribers after an earlier exodus and the worst is still to come. But, despite the recent cancelations, Netflix's coffers are far from empty as the streamer reportedly spent $30 million per episode for Stranger Things this season, which is even higher than HBO's House of the Dragon.

Stranger Things has one final season to go after its fourth outing, and it's unlikely that the budget for the hit TV series will get cheaper. We can only imagine the horror on the faces of those who work over at Netflix's financial department as they live in fear of what The Duffer Brothers could come up next.

The latest Stranger Things season will be around twice as long as previous ones.

In the meantime, Netflix will pray that it gets a temporary reprieve from all the negativity with a series of big releases like Hustle, Stranger Things, and Cobra Kai, among others, all coming in the next few months.
