Starfield technically isn't out yet, but that isn't stopping it from hitting major milestones. With a very active modding community behind the game, players have already made some impressive additions to the base game.
The Bethesda space RPG will be getting its full release tomorrow, but players will find there are already plenty of mods for the game on Nexus Mods. Bethesda games are very well known for being mod friendly and some mods on Skyrim even made it to the expansions. The fishing mod in Skyrim was one of the most popular additions in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Anniversary Edition.
With all the new mods being created for Starfield, players have downloaded over a million files from Nexus Mods. This is an impressive milestone considering the game is still in Early Access, which shows just how many gamers have played Starfield in early access.
One very popular mod for Starfield adds DLSS support for the game. With only AMD's FSR being officially supported by the game, modders have taken up the challenge of adding the Nvidia upscaling tech to Starfield. The now-free DLSS mod has already been downloaded 200,000 on the site - likely a result of all the performance issues players have been reporting.
Another popular mod called "Cleanfield" removes the intro videos and overhauls the in-game UI, giving players a much cleaner menu system. The mod already has almost 30,000 downloads as of writing.
Modders have also added famous sci-fi spaceships like the Normandy and Millennium Falcon. There are also mods that add famous characters to the game like George Constanza from Seinfeld. These mods add another level of customization to an already massive game.
There is a large modding community behind a majority of most Bethesda titles. Fallout 4 came out in 2015 and still has an active community adding content to the game. The post-apocalyptic action RPG has over 48,000 published content on Nexus Mods.
Skyrim has an even bigger modding community with over 69,000 mods on the site. The mods for the Bethesda ARPG from 2011 have been downloaded over 2 billion times on Nexus Mods. Even older Elder Scrolls games like Morrowind get new mods developed for them still.
Starfield already has 576 mods with the game still in early access. We expect the amount of community-made content to significantly boom once the game is released tomorrow. It will be interesting to see what the creative things modders come up with in the coming weeks.
Starfield is coming exclusively to PC and Xbox Series X/S on September 6. The game will also be available as a day-one title on the Xbox Game Pass.
