Dawn of the Jedi will be set in the pre-Republic era of the galaxy and will explore the origins of the Jedi Order.

Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi explore an age that has not been part of the canon story.

The Star Wars Celebration 2023 was a huge hit among fans, especially after Disney announced three movies coming in the near future. One of the films announced during the event was Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi.

Dawn of the Jedi was revealed alongside Star Wars: New Jedi Order and an incoming Mandalorian movie. New Jedi Order sees the return of Daisy Ridley as she embarks on a quest to restore the Jedi to their former glory. The Mandalorian movie will cap off the Disney+ series which has been extremely popular among fans.

Lucasfilm revealed that Dawn of the Jedi takes place 25,000 years before the events of Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace. The upcoming movie explores the era before the Old Republic and The Acolyte TV series. The time before the Old Republic is a mystery at this point as there is no canon about this age of the galaxy.

James Mangold is set to direct Dawn of the Jedi. Mangold is best known for directing the Marvel movie Logan starring Hugh Jackman. Mangold also directed the upcoming Lucasfilm movie Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, which will be the final film in the franchise starring Harrison Ford.

The movie may reveal the identity of the Prime Jedi.

The upcoming Star Wars film is still in the very early stages of pre-production at this point. No cast, characters, or plot details have been revealed yet.

Dawn of the Jedi will likely explore the origins of the Jedi Order and feature characters that have not appeared in any of the movies or TV shows. The film may feature the group called the Dai Bendu, a religious group that was the precursor of the Jedi Order. The movie could also reveal the identity of the Prime Jedi featured in Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

The film may also explore the story of how the Jedi discovered the planet Ilum. The planet is the most sacred among Jedi worlds and is the source of the Kyber crystals that power the Jedi Lightsaber. Jedi from across the galaxy travel to the Crystal Caves on Ilum to look for a Kyber crystal and being constructing their first Lightsaber.

There is no release date for the upcoming film.

It is not yet known at this point if Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi will be released in theaters. However, Lucasfilm describes the movie as a "biblical epic" which speaks volumes about the importance of the film. The studio will likely try to get the movie to theaters given its magnitude.

Lucasfilm has not yet announced a release date for Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi.
