After Crystal Dynamics attempted making a Marvel-related video game as part of Square Enix's deal with Marvel back in 2017, it's now time for Eidos Montreal to have a crack at it. The developers of the Deus Ex series, as well as 2018's Shadow of the Tomb Raider, were tasked to create a video game based on the galaxy-spanning Guardians of the Galaxy superhero team.
Judging by the looks of the game's latest trailer ahead of its October 26, 2021 release date, it appears that Eidos Montreal stuck the landing.
Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy is shaping up to be an awesome adventure
Eidos' Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy is their unique take on the eponymous team. It's not related to the same team from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, although you can't deny that Eidos took some inspiration. The goofiness of the popular MCU film series is all there, along with the same lineup.
However, unlike Square Enix's Marvel's Avengers, which was recently released on the Xbox Game Pass, Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy is a completely single-player campaign featuring the Star-Lord-led intergalactic team.
According to currently available information, the third-person action-adventure title will see the team of misfits try and clean up a mess that they made in an earlier expedition. The latest trailer also treats audiences to what appears to be the game's take on Adam Warlock.
Square Enix isn't the only video game publisher to ink a deal with Marvel. In the coming years, there will be a smorgasbord of Marvel video games arriving on various consoles. The next one after Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy is Firaxis Games' Marvel's Midnight Suns from 2K Games. Insomniac Games is also working on two Marvel-related video games in Marvel's Spider-Man 2 and Marvel's Wolverine, which aren't scheduled to launch until 2023 if not later.
