It seems quite odd that a highly anticipated movie finished post-production so close to its release date. However, given the magnitude of the movie, the post-production team may have had a lot of work to do.
The upcoming film will feature a ton of characters, specifically Spider-People from across the multiverse. Aside from Miles Morales and Gwen Stacy, the upcoming movie will feature Spider-Woman, Spider-Man India, Spider-Punk, Spider-Man 2099, Peter Parker from Marvel’s Spider-Man video game series, and many more.
What we know about Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse
In the upcoming movie, Miles Morales reunites with Gwen Stacy to take on a new villain that threatens the existence of the Spider-Verse. The antagonist of the movie will be Spot, a supervillain that has the ability to warp himself or parts of his body from one place to another using a dimension called the Spotworld.
The official synopsis of the movie reads, "After reuniting with Gwen Stacy, Brooklyn's full-time, friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is catapulted across the Multiverse, where he encounters a team of Spider-People charged with protecting its very existence. However, when the heroes clash on how to handle a new threat, Miles finds himself pitted against the other Spiders. He must soon redefine what it means to be a hero so he can save the people he loves most."
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will be the second film in a planned trilogy. The Spot will also be the villain of the third movie titled Beyond the Spider-Verse, which does not yet have a release date - information about this third installment is scarce in general.
There have been rumors that live-action Spider-Man Tom Holland may be part of the upcoming animated film. Holland has not confirmed that he will be in the movie but shared that he loves the animated Spider-Man films. Across the Spider-Verse producer Amy Pascal has played coy about Hollland’s involvement in the film and stated "not going to comment on anything around that!"
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is swinging to theaters on June 2, 2023.
