Sony might hold a PSVR2 showcase soon

A handful of industry insiders are claiming that they've received emails from Sony talking about the upcoming PSVR successor.

It appears that Sony will hold a special showcase for the PSVR2 soon.

With the power of the PS5 at its disposal, the PSVR2 could outsell the PSVR.

Several well-known insiders in the video game industry report receiving emails from Sony concerning the PlayStation VR2. Tom Henderson, specifically, pointed out that Sony started sending similar emails weeks before the pre-launch of the PlayStation 5. This all but confirms that Sony has extensive reveal for the new PSVR headset planned within the next couple of weeks, which is also in line with what we've heard from other leakers as well.

Speaking of leakers, Henderson acknowledged that he's not the only one who's gotten a hold of the same information, pointing out Greg Miller and Jeff Grubb.

In a recent episode of his podcast, Grubb mentioned that he "wouldn't be surprised" if we start hearing more about the PSVR2 soon.

For what it's worth, a proper PSVR2 showcase is long overdue.

Sony officially revealed PSVR 2 back in January. Since then, we've heard rumors that Sony's newest VR device is going to come out in 2023. It would make sense to hold a showcase for the new product this month and generate hype in the coming months leading up to a pre-order window in time for the holiday season.

We're also not ruling out an early release for the PSVR 2 if Sony is no longer so worried about the PS5 stock shortage.

Either way, all this discussion will circle back to what Miller said in late March, that Sony has three big announcements coming. We already know that the PlayStation Plus rebrand is one of those three and even if Sony isn't working on acquiring a new studio despite Jim Ryan's recent revelation, there are just too many coincidences for Sony not to do anything related to the PSVR 2 in the next couple of weeks.

With E3 out of the picture this year, Sony could headline the next few months by dropping exciting news back to back.

For now, all we know about the PSVR2 is the headset design and its first official exclusive, Horizon: Call of the Mountain. However, judging by Firesprite Games' expertise in VR titles, we wouldn't be surprised if its upcoming AAA horror project is a PSVR2 game.
