For those who missed the memo, Sonic is cool again.

SEGA's mascot was relegated to the B-tier of video game characters for years following a string of middling and good-but-not-great spinoffs as well as derivatives after dominating arcades for most of the 90s.

Hot on the heels of the success of Paramount Pictures' live-action adaptations - Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is on track to become the most successful video game movie ever - SEGA wants to bring fans a healthy dose of nostalgia with Sonic Origins.

The standard edition consists of remasters of the first two Sonic the Hedgehog games, as well as Sonic 3 & Knuckles, and Sonic CD with the Digital Deluxe edition adding exclusive content such as music, cosmetics, and extra missions.

As is the case with most remasters of older titles, Sonic Origins will enhance the graphics of the aforementioned arcade classics to make them run and look better on modern hardware. But, if you are feeling nostalgic, you can still play all four games in their old aspect ratio. But, if you're more used to modern niceties, SEGA added modern features and modes that never made their way to the original titles like being able to play as Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles in all four games as well as a new mode, Anniversary Mode, that lets you play the games in widescreen ratio with infinite lives.

As a bonus, SEGA is letting players unlock content the good ol' fashion way: by completing missions for rewards.

Sonic Origins is scheduled to come out on June 23.
