Skyrim Anniversary Edition is the first $70 game on Switch

We have heard of price increases for games on other platforms but this will be the first on the handheld console.

Prices have definitely increased for AAA titles in the last couple of years. This year, even Ubisoft, who was adamant about keeping the prices at $60, has finally given in to the market.

Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Anniversary Edition quietly dropped onto the Nintendo Switch.

Nintendo has tried to keep costs down but it seems that we have our first game at the same price point as the newest PlayStation and Xbox consoles.

Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Anniversary Edition has quietly been added to the Nintendo Switch library. We previously reported that it was coming to the handheld console but back then we didn’t even have a speculated date for its arrival.

It is now here and will cost players $70 to get Skyrim Anniversary Edition on the Switch. This surprised a lot of gamers, not only with the price point, but the release itself.

What do you get for $70?

Yes! Fishing in Skyrim is totally a thing.

The price of this new edition makes it somewhat divisive. People playing The Elder Scrolls for the first time may pick it up at this pricing point, but players who already own the AE on other platforms would probably skip the Switch version.

The game was previously released on PC and current-gen platforms. The Anniversary Edition includes the base game and all three of the official expansions: Dawnguard, Hearthfire, and Dragonborn. The Switch version does not have the enhanced graphics and performance upgrades that other consoles received with this edition.

What it does get is the same 74 Creation Club mod content. The new content features additional lore and quest for Skyrim. Players will also get new pieces of weapons, armor, and horses.

The Anniversary Edition also added fishing. Yes, that’s right, there is a fishing mini-game in Skyrim. Players can venture into the wilderness in search of the most bountiful fishing spots.

And if gamers feel like playing Skyrim as a life simulator, the Anniversary Edition also adds the Survival mode. In this mode, fast travel has been disabled and there are new hunger and fatigue meters that players need to manage. It would be interesting to play a fatigued and hungry Dragonborn being chased around by an angry blue dragon.

Fans react to the $70 price for Skyrim AE on Switch.

Fans of the game have been reacting to the $70 price that Bethesda chose to go with considering that the Anniversary Edition retails for just $50 on other platforms.

It does seem a bit odd that the Switch version of Skyrim: Anniversary Edition is much more expensive than on home consoles. My best guess is that Bethesda just added $10 to the current price of Skyrim on the handheld and called it a day.

It is also intriguing that Bethesda did not announce the game during Nintendo Direct or any of the other gaming events like the Tokyo Game Show. I mean, the TGS should have been a proper venue considering the Switch is huge in Japan.

Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Anniversary Edition is now available on the Nintendo Switch only as a digital download. Players who currently own the base game can opt to upgrade to the Anniversary Edition for $20.
