For a franchise that's all about high-octane action and explosions, Croteam and Devolver Digital's Serious Sam 4 didn't make a lot of noise when it was released last August 2020. Many blame this partly because Serious Sam 4 was exclusive to the Google Stadia for the first few months before arriving for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in early 2021. To make matters worse, the game did not support the Xbox Series S/X and PS5 at launch, turning away gamers who could have used a frenetic fast-paced shooter to test out their flagship consoles.
Apparently, this is all going to change soon.
When is Serious Sam 4 going to release on the PS5?
According to the German ratings board, the USK, Serious Sam 4 for the PS5 will have an 18+ age rating, which is a similar rating that it got on the PC, Google Stadia, as well as the PS4 and Xbox One. Even if it is technically the fourth installment in the Serious Sam franchise, Serious Sam 4 is a prequel to Serious Sam 3: BFE and follows Sam "Serious" Stone in his quest for the Ark of the Covenant and the Holy Grail.
Similar to its predecessors, Croteam advertised Serious Sam 4 as an over-the-top action title with a story that will keep gamers guessing at every turn. Unfortunately, the game didn't really get much recognition at launch. Many reviewers felt that it was rushed and tried to overcomplicate things whereas Serious Sam games are known for keeping things simple.
We're certain that it didn't help Serious Sam 4's case that the game was exclusive to the Google Stadia and the PC for a while.
Having said that, it's only a matter of time before we hear Croteam announce Serious Sam 4 for the PS5. Most likely, the game is also coming to the Xbox Series S/X too. Hopefully, Croteam also decides to bring The Serious Sam Collection to current-gen consoles as well.
