Rumored images of Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Switch OLED model surface

The incoming special edition Switch OLED might be one of the last ones to hit the market before a new Nintendo console comes out.

Nintendo is reportedly working on a Zelda-themed Switch OLED model.

A new Nintendo Switch OLED model of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is on the way if a rumor that surfaced recently is to be believed. The title itself is not set to launch for another five months in May.

This rumor is courtesy of a Reddit user, u/AyoadeNBN, who shared the images they claim are from the forthcoming console. AyoadeNBN claimed that the console was leaked by a Chinese factory employee. However, they didn't reveal whether they got their hands on the model itself or simply acquired the images. And while the leaked images look genuine, fans are better off taking the leak with a grain of salt since it is not from official sources.

If u/AyoadeNBN is right, the special edition Switch OLED device will feature a pair of gold Joy-Cons and a Zelda-themed dock with the series’s easily recognizable Tri-Force symbol emblazoned on it. Among other things, the two Joy-Cons spot green and white motifs to the right and left respectively, in a manner that is reminiscent of the game.

A new Zelda title is set to come out in May 2023.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is the forthcoming sequel to the 2017 title The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. It is a single-player action-adventure game that will take off from where its predecessor left off while incorporating ideas that the developers could not implement with the first title. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is one of the most anticipated titles of 2023. In fact, it won the award for Most Anticipated Game at the recently held The Game Awards in December 2022.

While the leaked images might be an elaborate attempt to play a quick one on fans of the game, the fact that Nintendo has released themed OLED models to promote games before means there is a real possibility it is genuine.

By the way, Shigeru Miyamoto, one of Nintendo’s representative directors, recently revealed that the company is working on a new console. However, the man behind the Super Mario and Legend of Zelda franchises refused to reveal whether the planned console is going to have backward compatibility or not. It's unclear if this is the same console that was leaked recently.

We'll find out more about the special edition Switch console as we get closer to the release date of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
