PUBG For Mobile Announced - PUBG: New State

PUBG Studios has announced its latest battle royale game, PUBG: New State, for mobile platforms. PUBG: New State is a futuristic take of the existing PUBG games. PUBG: New State will be available on both Android and iOS devices later this year. Alpha tests for the game will be announced soon.

What Is PUBG?

While Fortnite is currently the most popular battle royale game by far, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) was the game that popularized the genre. Released on the PC back in 2017, it quickly exploded in popularity, garnering both positive reviews from critics and adornment from streamers. The game was subsequently released on traditional home console platforms and PUBG Mobile was also released to mobile platforms.

PUBG’s gameplay was greatly inspired by the 2000 Japanese film “Battle Royale”, hence the namesake, where the plot involves high school students being forced to fight to the death in a confined place.

As of this writing, PUBG’s PC audience has cratered compared to its peak a few years ago. Industry observers and PUBG fans attribute the sharp decline to fierce competition which includes Fortnite and Call of Duty: Warzone, as well as PUBG Studio’s inability to polish its products - not just in terms of performance but also the continuing plague of hackers and bots in the game. In order to inflate the PUBG’s activity, the studio has employed bots to populate the game’s servers.

Whatever is happening to PUBG is the direct inverse of Fortnite. Fortnite was originally a tower defense survival game but Epic quickly offered a battle royale game mode that far exceeds the original mode in terms of player count and financial success. The gaming community initially scoffed at the “kiddie” art direction of Fortnite Battle Royale but it proved to be the better product as Fortnite became the cultural phenomenon that it is today.

What Is PUBG: New State?

PUBG: New State is the near-future version of the PUBG game. It is set in 2051, in the same universe as the PUBG games. The game promises to bring futuristic weapons, gadgets, and vehicles - drones and deployable combat shields will be introduced. New State looks to shake up the formula of the PUBG games as it will allow in-game customization, similar to how Apex Legends treats weapon modification during the matches.

Other Details Of PUBG: New State

The iconic cast-iron skillet pan will still be part of New State, as well as some of the vehicles, but they will be modified to reflect the futuristic setting. A new map, Troi, will also be introduced in the game.

PUBG: New State is currently listed in Google Play Store for pre-registration except for countries which banned the original mobile game from appearing due to national security concerns (such as India). PUBG Mobile is developed and maintained by Chinese mega-corporation Tencent, unlike the PC and console version of the game which is developed by PUBG Studios.
