Sony just confirmed that the PSVR 2 is not backward compatible with the PSVR 1

And just like that, Sony reignited the talks of the company's stance against backward compatibility.


Sony might have changed its stance when it comes to PC ports of its first-party exclusives, but it looks like it still won't support backward compatibility.

Here's what Sony had to say about the PlayStation VR2 on an official PlayStation Podcast:

PSVR games are not compatible with PSVR2 because PSVR2 is designed to deliver a truly next-generation VR experience.

On one hand, we sort of saw this coming. On the other hand, we'd hoped that Sony would at least make it so that the PSVR 2 could play PSVR 1 games, just like how the PS5 supports PS4 titles.

The original PSVR didn't have the most extensive video game library. However, it's still a shame that some of the games that were released exclusively on the PSVR will be forgotten. The games like Robinson: The Journey and Golem will likely be left to rot since they're not available on other VR platforms.

The good news is that Sony is preparing 20 "major" games for the PSVR2 early next year. Given the solid lineup we saw at June's State of Play showcase, we're inclined to believe that Sony will deliver.
