
If Microsoft buys Activision Blizzard, which we think will eventually happen, Sony should look into working closely with Electronic Arts in future Battlefield games.
We know Sony believes it can't keep up with Call of Duty but who knows? A collaboration between the two might be enough to give Call of Duty a run for its money. After all, Battlefield 2042 is enjoying mini-resurgence after it was introduced as part of the March 2023 PS Plus Essential games line-up earlier this month.
TrueTrophies reveals that Battlefield 2042 overtook the player counts of GTA 5, Rocket League, Overwatch 2, Apex Legends, and Destiny 2, for the month because of its PS Plus inclusion.
PSNProfiles lists Battlefield 2042 as the fourth-most-popular game on its website, just right behind Hogwarts Legacy as well as recent PS Plus Extra lineup additions, Minecraft Dungeons and Horizon Forbidden West.
You can't help but wonder if Sony should have added Battlefield 2042 as part of the PS Plus Essential lineup earlier. Unlike the more expensive PS Plus tiers, games included in the Essential tier are yours to keep forever after redemption.
Unfortunately, EA's long-term plans for Battlefield 2042 remain unclear for now.
Battlefield 2042 suffered mightily at launch after being billed by EA and DICE as the next big thing. But, subsequent updates have turned it into a much better game.
Vince Zampella played an instrumental role in turning Battlefield 2042 around. The shooter recently welcomed Update 4.0.1 and Season 5 is just right around the corner.
At the very least, Battlefield 2042 will enjoy a constant stream of new players who avoided it for months due to its poor reviews when it came out in late 2021.
As of the moment, Battlefield 2042 is already available to play via the Game Pass and PS Plus.
