PS Plus Extra and Premium just welcomed 17 new games today

The next set of free games to PS Plus Extra and Premium subscribers arrived this week as part of the revamped subscription service.

After welcoming this month's PS Plus Essential lineup a few weeks ago, Extra and Premium tier subscribers will get access to a little over a dozen new games today, including a handful of heavy hitters for the PS4 and the PS5.

The Goldenloop update breathes new life into an already excellent game in Deathloop.

Here's a complete list of the new PS Plus Extra games:

After last month's Yakuza-filled freebies, Sony has tapped its cache of PlayStation 5 titles to give subscribers a chance to try out Deathloop. Last year's Game of the Year nominee got a new update to coincide with its Game Pass release, which adds an extended ending to the game, among other things.

However, the Arkane Studios title isn't the only big addition to the PS Plus library. We're also looking at Watch Dogs 2 and Assassin's Creed Origins, as well as Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2.

For those who spent a bit more on the most expensive PS Plus tier, Premium, Sony also has good news.

We're still holding out hope that Sony and Bend Studio will work on a new Syphon Filter game.

There are a total of 6 new games from the PS1, PS3, and the PSP that are joining the service for the month. It's a solid step up from last month when Sony didn't add Premium games. Hopefully, this continues a trend of more classic games making their way to PS Plus.

Here are the new PS Plus Premium games for the month:

  • Syphon Filter 2 (PS1)
  • The Sly Collection (includes Sly Cooper, Sly 2: Band of Thieves, Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves) (PS3)
  • Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time (PS3)
  • Bentley's Hackpack (PS3)
  • Toy Story 3 (PSP)
  • Kingdom of Paradise (PSP)

PlayStation Plus still ranks below the Game Pass when it comes to the value it brings to the table, but it's starting to close the gap. We're curious to find out what Sony has in store for the service in the future.

The Game Pass will welcome more Activision Blizzard games like Call of Duty, Overwatch, and Diablo, soon. Sony needs to do something to make the PS Plus more enticing, especially the Extra and Premium tiers. This month's offering is a good start but we'll need more of it.

In other news, Sony is believed to be preparing a new PS5 model for 2024.
