Far Cry and Middle-Earth headline PS Plus Extra and Premium games for December 2022

With the holiday season in full swing, gamers will be in desperate need of time sinks and PlayStation just delivered them in spades.

Far Cry Primal is easily one of more underrated titles in the Far Cry franchise.

Ubisoft's Far Cry games and a pair of Monolith Productions titles are the highlights of this month's PS Plus Extra and Premium lineup. But, that's not all, as a total of 17 new games are arriving or have arrived on the more expensive PS Plus tier, as well as four more games for the most expensive tier.

The trio of Far Cry games are Far Cry 5, Far Cry Primal, and Far Cry New Dawn. The latter two are more expansions than mainline titles. However, we recommend giving Far Cry Primal a shot. We ranked it as the second-best non-numbered Far Cry game in our round-up of the popular Ubisoft franchise and you'll find out why starting on December 20.

But, if the open-world first-person shooter titles aren't enough to keep you occupied, maybe a brutish trip to Middle-Earth can satiate your hunger. Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor and its sequel, Shadow of War, is more up to snuff. Finally, if you're still not satisfied, a different batch of Yakuza games, Yakuza 6: The Song of Life, Yakuza: Like a Dragon, and Judgment, will all be available as well.

Judgment is seen as the best Yakuza game in the series, even by hardcore fans.

All the aforementioned games are coming on December 20, as well as the ones listed down below:

  • Mortal Shell (PS4, PS5)
  • The Pedestrian (PS4, PS5)
  • Evil Genius 2 (PS4, PS5)
  • Adventure Time: Pirates of the Enchiridion (PS4)
  • Ben 10: Power Trip (PS4, PS5)
  • Gigantosaurus The Game (PS4)
  • Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire - Ultimate Edition (PS4)
  • Worms WMD (PS4)
  • The Escapists 2 (PS4)

According to Sony, WWE 2K22 is headed to the PS Plus Extra library on January 3 as well. If you spent a bit more to get the Premium (or Deluxe, in certain countries) membership tier, you'll also be getting access to two more PSP titles (Ridge Racer 2 and Pinball Heroes), one PS3 game (Heavenly Sword), and another one for the original PlayStation (Oddworld: Abe's Exodus).

When you add the 21 games that we just mentioned to the three free games for December to all PS Plus Essential members (Mass Effect: Legendary Edition, Biomutant, and Divine Knockout), Sony's year-ending offer isn't half-bad.

Heavenly Sword is one of those games that came out on the PS3 that really should've gotten a sequel by now.

Hopefully, Sony's generosity extends to the executives in their opposition to the Activision Blizzard purchase by Microsoft. We're pretty sure a ten-year deal with PS Plus included will be more than enough to give Sony a chance to create an FPS title that could potentially be a rival to Call of Duty. Who knows? Maybe Sony can buy Electronic Arts and give Battlefield exactly what it needs so that it can finally keep up with Call of Duty.
