Sony finally announces PS Plus August 2021 free games

Sony's announcement of the PS Plus August 2021 lineup confirms earlier leaks.

Every month, Sony rewards PlayStation Plus subscribers with free games. For the better part of the past year, subscribers have received three freebies each month. The first two are usually available on both the PS4 and the PS5, with the third game being exclusive to the PS5.

PS Plus subscribers will get a chance to play Hunter's Arena: Legends for free on the PS5.

Occasionally, the third PS Plus free game will be a brand new PS5 game. This appears to be the case for the PS Plus August 2021 free games lineup.

What are the PS Plus August 2021 free games?

We have to admit. The PS Plus August 2021 games lineup is pretty underwhelming.

The free games for PS Plus subscribers this August are the following: 2019's Plants vs Zombies: Battle for Neighborville, 2020's Tennis World Tour 2, and Hunter's Arena: Legends.

Similar to Oddworld: Soulstorm, which Sony gave away to PS Plus subscribers when it was launched back in April 2021, PS Plus subscribers will be able to download and play Hunter's Arena: Legends as soon as it launches.

The free games lineup for August 2021 confirms the earlier leaks too.

The PS Plus August 2021 free games lineup is far from Sony's worst month. However, one can't help wish for something better. Battle for Neighborville isn't exactly a popular title. It's fun and all, but you can't help but think that Sony could have chosen another game instead. Like, you know, Godfall. The same goes for Tennis World Tour 2, which is a professional tennis simulator that isn't exactly for everybody due to the game's steep learning curve.

If it's any consolation, PS Plus subscribers will be able to download Hunter's Arena: Legends for the PS5 starting August 3.

The melee-focused battle royale has been in Early Access on Steam since July 2020 and is expected to be available to play starting August 3. The game will reportedly release with 17 playable hunters before more are added in the future. The game is being developed by the indie developer, Mantisco.

Considering that it is a battle royale title, making it available for free to a lot of PS5 owners should give the game the necessary boost that it needs during its first few weeks on the market.

Speaking of free games, the July 2021 lineup for PS Plus subscribers is still available. Just to recap, subscribers can download Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 and WWE 2K Battlegrounds, alongside A Plague Tale: Innocence, which are all still available to grab until August 2.

As for the PS Plus August 2021 free games, Sony confirmed that the free titles are going to be available until September 6.
