"Project Red" might be the first Assassin's Creed game set in Japan

"Project Red" will reportedly be the first Assassin's Creed game to come out along with Assassin's Creed Infinity.

For a game about people who like lurking in the shadows, Assassin's Creed is yet to have a title set in Japan. But, if we believe a recent report, this omission is about to end soon.

"Project Red" should take notes from what made Origins and Odyssey so successful.

Several insiders have come forward claiming that Ubisoft is working on two new Assassin's Creed games. The first one, Assassin's Creed: Rift, was originally a DLC for Assassin's Creed: Valhalla before Ubisoft repurposed it as a standalone title to fill the gap between Assassin's Creed: Valhalla and the next open-world Assassin's Creed game, "Project Red."

Many consider Odyssey as one of the best Assassin's Creed games, only second to Assassin's Creed 2.

Jason Schreier, a video game journalist who writes for Bloomberg, also confirmed that the second unannounced Assassin's Creed game is a part of Assassin's Creed: Infinity. Ubisoft described this in-development title last year as a live-service platform for future games in the franchise.

Another source, Jeff Grubb, corroborated Schreier's claims in his podcast. Grubb stated that Project Red will expand on the open-world RPG format and take place in feudal Japan.

To summarize what we've heard these the past few days, Ubisoft is working on one stealth-focused Assassin's Creed game and another one set in an open world. Meanwhile, Skull & Bones is coming out in November, which should take care of those who miss the naval combat of the earlier games in the series. Unfortunately, Ubisoft has kept its silence amidst all the talks, so we can't really say for sure which is which. But, with multiple trusted sources all saying the same thing, it feels like it's only a matter of time before Ubisoft confirms all the things we just told you.

If it's any consolation, Ubisoft is hosting "The Future of Assassin's Creed" in September. We are hoping to hear more about the new Assassin's Creed games by then.
