Pokémon Scarlet and Violet have teased many new pocket monsters that will be added to the game. Sprigatito, Fuecoco, and Quaxly are just some of the new types to be introduced in the upcoming open-world Pokémon game. The latest reveal has just added another new name to the roster.
Just in time for Halloween, The Pokémon Company and Game Freak revealed a new Pokémon coming to the RPG game. Greavard, a new dog/ghost type Pokémon will be added to the Paldea region with the new title.
The new Pokémon looks like a cross between Litwick and Stoutland (Lillipup evolution). It has white fur and a candle sticking out the top of its head. Players will have to search for a candle sticking out of the ground as this Pokémon likes to hide its body beneath the earth.
A new trailer unveiling Greavard to the Pokémon community has been released. In the trailer, several other Ghost-type Pokémon such as Ghastly, Haunter, and Gengar are featured along with Misdreavus, being a perfect fit for the season.
According to the description, Greavard lurks underground with only the candle visible above ground and jumps out to when approached. It lets out a what sounds spooky cry that may scare off trainers, but Greavard just wants to play!
Greavard, like most other dog-type Pokémon, is friendly and playful. It has an affectionate personality and loves being given attention, and may follow trainers around when it is played with. However, it can be dangerous to keep Greavard around - it "will slowly and inadvertently absorb the life force of those around it, so it’s best not to play with it too much."
Another Halloween-themed trailer for Pokémon Scarlet shows a trainer in search of Ghost-type Pokémon. The trainer is from the Naranja Ghost-type Pokémon club. This time, the trailer is in first person which is quite fun.
The trainer encounters several Ghost-type Pokémon at night when they are most active. She then finds a Greavard and plays with it for several moments before her energy is drained and she collapses. Greavard is indeed very cute but also very dangerous for trainers.
Greavard gets its name from a combination of Greaves, a type of dog food, and Briard which is a breed of long-haired dog - as well as the phonetic similarity to the word "graveyard". Its Japanese name is Bochi is a combination of bochi (graveyard), Pochi (dog), and hitoribocchi (loneliness). The Japanese name could mean lonely graveyard dog.
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are coming to the Nintendo Switch on November 18, 2022. A new Pokemon Scarlet and Violet-themed Nintendo Switch OLED will be arriving next week ahead of the game.
