Netherland-based video game development studio, Blue Box Game Studios, recently announced that they're working on an all-new IP titled Abandoned that's set to exclusively release on the PlayStation 5 later this year.

Blue Box Game Studios Game Director, Hasan Kahraman, broke the news via a blog post on the official Sony PlayStation blog on Wednesday, April 7.

What Kind of Game Is The PS5-Exclusive Abandoned?

Abandoned is a first-person survival horror shooter title from the indie studio, Blue Box Game Studios. It's reportedly been in development for the better part of the past 5 years.

According to its Game Director, Abandoned puts players in the shoes of Jason Longfield, a man who finds himself in the middle of a strange and dense forest with not the faintest clue of how he got there and why. As he goes on exploring, he eventually manages to piece things together.

Apparently, someone had kidnapped Jason and brought him to the forest with sinister plans in mind. Now that he knows that his life is in immediate danger, Jason is desperate to find a way to escape and survive.

In addition to detailing what the game is all about, Kahraman also took the time in the blog post to discuss what kind of experience the game will provide. He claims that the studio wants to "deliver a uniquely personal gameplay experience", adding that they want it to feel realistic. This includes making it more difficult to fire a gun and maintain optimal accuracy if you're out of breath and so much more.

Is Abandoned a Hideo Kojima Title?

Almost immediately after the studio announced the game, people quickly claimed that this was all just a ruse. In particular, many believed that this was all a cover-up involving Hideo Kojima.

The ever-playful video game auteur is a legend in the video game industry. He gave birth to the iconic video game franchise, Metal Gear. Meanwhile, his most recent experimental title, Death Stranding, featured appearances from Guillermo Del Toro and put Norman Reedus in the lead role.

With that said, one of the most prevalent speculations about Abandoned is that the game's director, Hasan Kahraman, has the same initials as that of Hideo Kojima. It also didn't help that Blue Box Game Studios has had no notable projects in the past. In fact, it'll be difficult to look up the credentials of Hasan Kahraman even if you did it yourself right now.

Of course, this isn't to say that we're part of those that believe this is all a ruse. Rather, we're saying that we understand why people are speculating about it. After all, it's an open secret that Hideo Kojima is set to announced his latest title soon. It also hasn't been long since Hideo Kojima pulled off a similar stunt. "He" announced one of his previous projects, Metal Gear Solid V, under a different title with a different development company.

As of now, current available information suggests that Abandoned is its own unique title. The developers have since gone out of their way to clarify that they are not associated with Hideo Kojima in any way.

So, what exactly is Abandoned? We don't know. It's probably just an indie title that Sony saw enough potential in to back as an exclusive for the PlayStation 5 and promote. But, if it does end up being Hideo Kojima's next game, then it wouldn't surprise us either. Regardless of what Abandoned is, one thing we're sure of is that it's an interesting game.
