In addition to confirming that Nintendo 64 and SEGA Genesis games are coming to Nintendo Switch Online, Nintendo also revealed several new games that are coming to its portable console along with a bunch of other surprising news that very few could have possibly predicted.

Five N64 boards are coming to Mario Party Superstars

Square Enix reveals a gorgeous new tabletop RPG

Square Enix and Yoko Taro (NieR and NieR: Automata) announced its new RPG title, Voice of Cards: The Isle Dragon Roars for the Nintendo Switch. Disco Elysium - The Final Cut is headed to the Nintendo Switch

Nintendo Switch owners will finally get a chance to see what the fuss regarding Disco Elysium was all about.

Chocobo GP is a Final Fantasy-themed Mario Kart

Chocobos have been a part of Final Fantasy for as long as the franchise has existed. So, it comes off as a surprise that we haven't gotten many games based on them. Square Enix must have noticed this, which is why it's releasing a Mario Kart-like game with Chocobos in the place of carts on the Nintendo Switch exclusively sometime in 2022.

The final Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC fighter is coming on October 5

It's going to be a bittersweet day for Smash Bros. fans on October 5. The good news is that there will be a Mr. Sakurai Presents starting at 7:00 AM PT or 10:00 AM ET on that day. Ultimate as Sakurai announces the final DLC fighter for Nintendo's flagship brawler.

Kirby is going full 3D in Kirby and the Forgotten Land

It's only taken a couple of decades, but here we finally are. Just as Mario eventually leaped to 3D back in the late 90s, so is Kirby with Kirby and the Forgotten Land. Unfortunately, Aspyr Media's remake of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic isn't coming to the Nintendo Switch. As a consolation, Aspyr is releasing the OG game on Nintendo's portable console. It's going to be available to play on the go starting on November 11, 2021.

Both Dying Light games are making their way to the Nintendo Switch

A wild Metroid Dread trailer just dropped

With Metroid Dread scheduled to release on October 8, Nintendo couldn't let the chance to drop a new trailer for the first new Metroid installment in years pass them by. Believe it or not, the earlier GeForce Now leak is legit and several of the titles contained in it are going to come sooner or later. Actraiser Renaissance is proof of this. If it's any consolation, audiences did get a chance to see a brand new gameplay trailer for the upcoming Splatoon installment. The latest preview shows off the game's single-player campaign, along with the new weapons and traversal mechanics that are coming to the updated Turf War mode.

Bayonetta 3 for the Nintendo Switch finally makes an appearance

To end the showcase, Nintendo dropped a proverbial bomb by confirming that Bayonetta 3 is coming in 2022. As per the trailer, the shape-shifting witch is sporting a new look for her latest outing. To match her new do, she's got new superpowers too; she can summon a giant dragon to fight for her this time around.

Were there other announcements at the latest Nintendo Direct?

Outside of what we've already mentioned, Nintendo did a quick highlight of upcoming games and their release dates. This includes Hot Wheels Unleashed, which is due to release on September 30, and Arcade Archives PAC-MAN and XEVIOUS, which is already available today. Nintendo also confirmed the release dates of other upcoming titles such as Surviving the Aftermath (Holiday 2021), Shin Megami Tensei V (November 11), Wreckfest (Fall 2021), and Rune Factor 5 (March 22, 2022).
