The next Hideo Kojima game could be revealed at Gamescom 2022

The celebrated video game auteur just dropped hints that we could hear more about its next game soon.

It doesn't matter if you love him or hate him (or maybe even revere him) but Hideo Kojima has left an indelible mark on the video game industry. The Metal Gear franchise is one of the most influential games of all time. The series set a high bar for stealth and spy games, which only a few have matched let alone surpassed. So, while Kojima's first project after his messy divorce from Konami, Death Stranding, was divisive, fans are still looking forward to seeing what his wildly creative mind can come up next.

Kojima Productions has at least two projects rumored to be in development.

Now, it seems that Kojima is gearing up for a proper reveal of his next project sooner than expected.

Kojima recently sent his fans into a frenzy after sending out a tweet suggesting that he had just finished editing the trailer for his new game. Many speculate that Kojima Productions is preparing to showcase the still-untitled game at Gamescom 2022.

Gamescom Opening Night Live will take place on August 23 with Geoff Keighley hosting. It is worth remembering that Kojima was at the Summer Game Fest last year to reveal Death Stranding: Director's Cut. Not to mention, Kojima is working with Xbox for its next title and Microsoft recently confirmed its presence in Cologne, Germany in two weeks.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to put two and two together to conclude that Kojima will be at Gamescom 2022.

Unfortunately, it remains unclear what kind of game Kojima is working with Xbox outside of the fact that it will use cloud technology. Rumors suggest that "Overdose" is either a spin-off to Death Stranding featuring Margaret Qualley or a different title with Margaret in the lead. Either way, with Kojima himself "confirming" that he's finished editing something, we might see what he's talking about soon even if it's not at Gamescom 2022.

There's a small group of people over on the internet that hasn't given up hope yet on a sequel to Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.

In the off-chance that everyone is wrong and Kojima isn't going to be at Gamescom, there are still plenty of chances we'll hear more about Kojima. Two other upcoming events are the Tokyo Game Show in September and The Game Awards in December.

Speaking of Kojima, the Metal Gear creator is working on Death Stranding 2. The lead actor, Norman Reedus, has already confirmed that the game is in development twice. If Kojima is not talking about Overdose in his recent tweet, there's a chance that we could see Death Stranding 2 revealed soon.
