While Harry Potter fans look forward to the upcoming Hogwarts Legacy game, fans of The Lord of the Rings are hoping that The Lord of the Rings: Gollum won't be postponed once more now that a new release window has been announced.
The upcoming action-adventure video game, developed by Daedalic Entertainment and published by Nacon, will launch some time between April and September this year.
The game was first scheduled to be released in 2021 before it was delayed to 2022. In May 2022, the publishers announced on the game's official Twitter page that The Lord of the Rings: Gollum would be released on Steam, PlayStation, and Xbox on September 1, 2022, and on Nintendo Switch on November 30, 2022.
However, in July 2022, the developers announced that the game would be delayed again for "a few months" in a statement that read:
We are dedicated to meeting our community's expectations and uncovering the untold story of Gollum in a way that honors the vision of J.R.R. Tolkien. That being said, in order to deliver the best possible experience, we have decided to push the release of The Lord of the Rings: Gollum by a few months. We will update you with an exact timing in the near future.
The game, which is based on J.R.R. Tolkien's works, follows Gollum as he sets off in search of the One Ring between the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.
Fans of J.R.R. Tolkien's work will be eating well in the next few years with at least five seasons of Prime Video's The Rings of Power all but confirmed already. In addition to this, an animated prequel is in the works. Finally, whoever ends up buying the rights for The Lord of the Rings video games will likely have something big planned for the next decade as well.
