PlayStation app update introduces new customization features

New hardware has been a major motive for Sony recently but they aren't letting up on the software adjustments either.

Sony’s PlayStation app for Android and iOS received a new update that introduced a feature allowing users to personalize their app experience.

Sony has made customization a big part of the PS5 experience. So the latest software update, which allows users to control features on their PS4 and PS5 consoles from the comfort of their phones, is very much welcome.

While minuscule in impact and size, the new feature makes setting up new color schemes a breeze via the ”Appearance” tab in the settings menu. Users can alternate between Cosmic Red, Galactic Purple, Midnight Black, Nova Pink, and Starlight Blue. These are the main colors used in Sony’s promotional materials and hardware products, so it’s not a surprise to see them pop up here.

The PlayStation App is a great way for players to browse the PlayStation Store, read news from the PlayStation blog, as well as message and chat with friends without having to use the controller. They can also access their console's storage while their PlayStation 5 is in rest mode in order to download games and DLC to their console without even being home.

This is the latest update in a long line of adjustments including the introduction of the PlayStation Stars loyalty program this past September.

Using the new program, members can earn rewards from purchases made on the PlayStation Store and from completing a handful of available challenges.

Speaking of Sony, if you're thinking about getting a new DualSense Edge for yourself, you might want to reconsider unless you can take full advantage of it. The expensive controller sacrifices battery life for its bevy of useful features.

Also, Sony is making it clear that this year is huge for the PlayStation brand with an assortment of new games and the launch of PSVR2 next month. Finally, the PS Plus Essential lineup for next month just leaked online.
