Disney just dropped new details about the Home Alone reboot

Decades after it first premiered, Home Alone remains the go-to Christmas movie for most families.

The Home Alone film series, which featured Macaulay Culkin in his iconic role as Kevin McCallister, is a fixture in many family's homes, especially during the holidays. The first two Home Alone movies are widely considered some of the best Christmas movies of all time. This year though, Disney+ has plans for its own Home Alone reboot.

Home Sweet Home Alone will be Archie Yates' second film.

What is the title of the Home Alone Reboot?

At the moment, there's no information available about who's playing who.

The Home alone reboot, Home Sweet Home Alone, will look to replicate the iconic status of the original Home Alone movies by featuring yet another mischievous kid who's been left at home on accident by his family over the holidays.

Similar to the beloved film series, the upcoming reboot will star a child named Max Mercer who finds himself in the same predicament that Kevin did decades ago. The character will be portrayed by 12-year-old Archie Yates, who made his debut in 2019's Jojo Rabbit. However, unlike Kevin, Max won't have to deal with two bumbling thieves who just happened to target their house. Instead, Max will have to try and fend off a married couple who are intent on targeting the family's heirlooms.

As his family is away on vacation in Japan, Max will have to try and come up with a plan to try and fend off the husband-and-wife thief duo.

Who else will star in the Home Alone reboot?

Home Sweet Home Alone will premiere on November 12, just in time for the holidays.

20th Century Studios' official announcement was slim on details about who's playing who in Home Sweet Home Alone. However, we do know from public information that the film's cast of characters will include the likes of Ellie Kemper, Rob Delaney, Timothy Simmons, Kenan Thompson, and Ally Maki. Mikey Day and Streeter Seidel are signed on as the movie's writers.

After the success of the first two Home Alone films, Macaulay Culkin has since moved on to other endeavors. Meanwhile, the studio has tried to recreate what made the original two movies so special.

Unfortunately, all the subsequent attempts failed to reach the same iconic status as Home Alone and Home Alone 2. But, if it's any consolation, Macaulay Culkin hasn't been afraid to reprise his former role in several hilarious skits.

With that said, it's simply unfair to put such a burden on Home Sweet Home Alone. It's best that we just try and enjoy it as what it is - a fun family affair that everyone can enjoy for the holidays. But, of course, if Macaulay Culkin decides to drop in for a surprise cameo, we won't complain.

When is the premiere date of the Home Alone reboot?

According to Disney+, 20th Century Studios' holiday family film will release on November 12, 2021, which is coincidentally the second anniversary of Disney's streaming platform.
