NetherRealm Studios announcement teased for The Game Awards 2021

Fans are speculating that NetherRealm Studios is going to announce Injustice 3 or Mortal Kombat 12 at The Game Awards 2021.

The hype surrounding The Game Awards 2021 continues to grow. With the annual event set to welcome live audiences again on December 9, there have been several leaks, rumors and much speculation surrounding the showcase. One of the most recent ones involves NetherRealm Studios, the studio behind popular fighting video game franchises such as Injustice and Mortal Kombat.

Injustice 3 would be a perfect way to bury everyone's memories of that awful animated movie adaptation of the Injustice storyline that was released earlier this year.

Is NetherRealm going to announce its next game at TGA 2021?

A Mortal Kombat 12 at TGA 2021 announcement is probably too soon, but you won't hear us complaining if it happens.

Ever since NetherRealm confirmed that it was going to cease support for Mortal Kombat 11 earlier this year, fans have been wondering what the studio was going to work on next. Before its official announcement, the initial rumors surrounding Warner Bros. upcoming platform fighting game, Multiversus, claimed that NetherRealm Studios was the lead studio behind the project.

But, since this wasn't the case, fans are still curious what the studio is working on right now.

If you believe the Nvidia GeForce Now leaks, NetherRealm has its hands full working on both Injustice 3 and Mortal Kombat 12, both of which are slated to release sometime in 2023.

With that said, eager fans just spotted something peculiar about what NetherRealm Studios Senior Production Manager Jonathan Andersen said in an earlier tweet. He claims that he was just "looking respectfully" in his reply to 2-time EVO finalist, HoneyBee, but fans believe that it was a tease of what's to come.

Keep in mind that The Game Awards 2021 is set to kick off on December 9. In addition to crowning the year's best games, the awards show will feature several video game trailers and announcements. It wouldn't be far-fetched for NetherRealm Studios to join the long list of reveals on December 9, which reportedly already includes The Matrix Awakens for the PS5 and The Last Night, among others.

Of course, it's best to take everything that you just read with a grain of salt. NetherRealm hasn't confirmed anything yet, so the studio might not show up at The Game Awards 2021. If it does, there's no guarantee it's going to announce a new Injustice or Mortal Kombat game either.

For now, all we can do is to recommend that you follow The Game Awards 2021 closely on December 9.
