The upcoming Castlevania: Nocturne anime series on Netflix whips out a new main trailer, showcasing Richter Belmont's Divine Bloodlines theme music.

Castlevania: Nocturne is the sequel to the critically acclaimed and fan-favorite 4-season anime on Netflix. This time, the protagonists will be Richter Belmont, the newest inheritor of the legacy left by the vampire-hunting Belmont clan. Joining him will be Maria Renard and Annette, two magic-wielding freedom fighters in the French Revolution.

While a previous teaser trailer was released for Castlevania: Nocturne, the new trailer reveals more details and, for the long-time fans, features a familiar theme tune.

The Castlevania: Nocturne trailer debuted on the Netflix official website and was shared on social media such as X (formerly Twitter) and YouTube.

Whereas the previous teaser has a more somber tone, the new Castlevania: Nocturne trailer is more action-packed and dynamic. The frenetic pace of the sequences shown from the upcoming horror-fantasy series is boosted by the Divine Bloodlines theme music.

Composed by Akira Sōji, 乾坤の血族 Kenkon no Ketsuzoku (literally translated 'Blood Relations of Heaven and Earth'), the Divine Bloodlines theme has also been called Blood Relations and Overture by the Castlevania fandom. It was the original theme music for the 1993 NEC PC Engine game Castlevania: Rondo of Blood and the later SNES port Castlevania: Dracula X.

The trailer for Castlevania: Nocturne includes scenes that indicate Richter Belmont will have a tragic childhood backstory, which was not in the lore of the original Konami games.

Longtime fans of the Castlevania video games by Konami will recognize the Divine Bloodlines music as Richter Belmont's theme. However, the new trailer for Castlevania: Nocturne rearranges the theme and adds orchestral choruses, giving it a more cinematic polish. Appropriately, the crescendos place emphasis during the trailer's high-octane action, highlighting Richter Belmont's abilities and the weapons he uses to slay monsters and, specifically, vampires.

There are also scenes that flesh out some of Richter Belmont's backstory. It appears the animated series will give a tragic origin for Richter which was not in the original video games' lore. As a child, the young Belmont will suffer the loss of one or more of his parents at the hands of vampires, leaving him on his own.

Maria Renard and Annette are also going to be revised in the anime series. Maria is significantly older than her video game counterpart, while Annette will have a darker skin tone and originate from the Carribean as an ex-slave fighting during the French Revolution.

Plus, more details about the overall plot is shown in the new Castlevania: Nocturne trailer, indicating that the main antagonist Erzsebet Báthory is seeking to bring forth a so-called Vampire Messiah. Fans of the Castlevania games will recognize this plot as a variation of the story in the Sega Genesis title Castlevania: Bloodlines (although the villain in that story was named Elizabeth Bartley).

Characters like Maria Renard and Annette will also be significantly modified for the Netflix anime. Maria will be noticeably older, while Annette will have a different heritage and be more active, rather than simply being kidnapped as with her counterpart in the video game Castlevania: Rondo of Blood.

Notably absent from the trailer is the presence of Dracula himself. Could he be the Vampire Messiah? And what of the fate of Dracula's son, Alucard? Given the video game history of Richter and Alucard being intertwined in Symphony of the Night, it would seem odd if the latter will not be appearing in Castlevania: Nocturne.
