Netflix has released the first trailer for its upcoming horror comedy We Have a Ghost starring Anthony Mackie and David Harbour. The streaming platform revealed the movie via its YouTube channel where it has garnered almost half a million views in under 24 hours.

The trailer shows Harbour as a house-haunting good-natured ghost named Ernest. When the family of Frank Presley – played by Mackie – moves in, Ernest tries to haunt them. However, he is caught on camera, posted to social media, and quickly becomes an internet sensation. Ernest gains a horde of fans and even appears on a live interview with a medium whom he scares the living daylights out of.

Things weren’t all fun and games, however. Ernest and Kevin, one of Frank’s kids, start an investigation into his mysterious past, including his death. In the process, they become targets of the CIA and other law enforcement agents.
When speaking on Harbour’s role as Ernest, Christopher Landon, the film director, had the following to say, "He was my first choice. I knew that the role was incredibly challenging because there's no dialog, so he just has to do so much with so little. We had a meeting, and he told me he was terrified of doing it, which I thought was great because it shows that he was feeling vulnerable and intrigued and excited. By the end of our meeting, I think we both felt really strongly that it was a good match."
Apart from Harbour and Mackie, We Have a Ghost stars Jennifer Coolidge, Tig Notaro, Niles Fitch, Kat Conner Sterling, Faith Ford, Isabella Russo, Jahi Di’Allo Winston, and Steve Coulter. The film is an adaptation from a 2017 short story titled Ernest by Geoff Manaugh.
Despite being the film’s director, We Have a Ghost is also written by Christopher Landon, who is best known for writing the screenplay for Disturbia and several films in the Paranormal Activity series. Landon also has directorial experience with his previous works including the 2010 film Burning Palms, Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones, and Happy Death Day 2U.
We have a Ghost is one of 49 feature films that Netflix will release in 2023. The streamer released a preview video in January that showcased its 2023 feature film slate and, apart from the Harbour-led film, it includes You, Luther: The Fallen Son, The Mother, Lift, Murder Mystery 2, Rebel Moon, and Extraction 2, among others.
We Have a Ghost's lead stars are presumed to share the big screen sometime in the future with the respective premieres of Captain America: New World Order and Thunderbolts on May 3, 2024, and July 26, 2024.
