Mortal Kombat 1 gameplay to debut at Summer Game Fest on June 8

Mortal Kombat 1 impressed audiences with its reveal trailer but the gameplay debut is what hardcore fans are waiting for.

It looks like Mortal Kombat 1's highly anticipated gameplay reveal won't happen at the May 24 PlayStation Showcase, contrary to earlier rumors. Instead, the upcoming fighting game will be a part of this year's Summer Game Fest, which is scheduled for June 8.

It looks like we'll have to wait for a while to see how good Mortal Kombat 1 looks in-game.

The show's host, Geoff Keighley, confirmed the reveal via Twitter ahead of the start of the PlayStation Showcase.

Fans have been waiting for the new gameplay following the breathtaking cinematic trailer debut of Mortal Kombat 1.

According to Keighley, he'll be joined by the series' co-creator, Ed Boon, live and on stage for the gameplay reveal.

Mortal Kombat 1 will see several familiar characters have different origin stories.

After doing an official announcement already, Boon and Keighley are expected to do more than just present a simple trailer on June 8. Fans can expect to see a short interview take place, particularly about the game's new features and the roster. All in all, fans should get a deeper look into what they can expect from Mortal Kombat 1 at the Summer Game Fest.

A new feature that Mortal Kombat 1 will introduce is the Kameo Fighter system. This gameplay element involves a roster of unique partner fighters assisting players during matches. We have zero details about the system yet, but it's almost certain we'll get to see it in action during the reveal at Summer Game Fest.

After much anticipation, Mortal Kombat 1 will reboot the entire Mortal Kombat franchise, as explained by Boon. It features a rebooted universe where the origin stories and even alliances of the traditional characters like Liu Kang, Sub Zero, Mileena, and more, are likely going to be different.

The decision to reboot Mortal Kombat after Mortal Kombat 11 gives NetherRealm a fresh slate to introduce new concepts that they've cornered themselves into previously.

NetherRealm has done an excellent job keeping the next entry in the billion-dollar franchise shrouded in mystery ahead of its release on September 19.

This hype will likely bring audiences to watch the Summer Game Fest on June 8, which starts at 12:00 PM PT or 3:00 PM ET and features over 40 partners.

Last year's Summer Game Fest saw the official reveals of Aliens: Dark Descent, Layers of Fear, and The Last of Us Part 1, among others.
