The Riot Shield is one of the most feared weapons in Call of Duty history. The overpowered piece of equipment grants skilled users near-invincibility and unlimited potential to annoy. This is also why it's not available to use in most Call of Duty games. But, for some reason, Infinity Ward is bringing the Riot Shield to Modern Warfare II, much to the chagrin of fans.
You can catch a glimpse of the annoying series mainstay in the Campaign Early Access teaser for Modern Warfare 2. You can't miss the multiple instances of the Riot Shield in the trailer. The worst part is that users appear to be able to hold guns as well. This makes the already infuriating Riot Shield even more rage-inducing. But, if it's any consolation, Modern Warfare II's multiplayer likely isn't going to let players wield weapons with the Riot Shield. This was the case with the original Modern Warfare II from 2009; the SMG and Riot Shield combo was exclusive for the AI in the single-player campaign.
The Riot Shield debuted in 2009's Modern Warfare II. It makes sense for the sequel to bring it back, if only for the sake of continuity.
Fingers crossed, Infinity Ward has learned its lesson from the backlash that the Riot Shield received over the years. If the offering becomes an equipable weapon in MWII and Warzone 2, we are hoping that it's implemented well. Otherwise, fans will revolt.
We'll find out more about Modern Warfare II starting on the 15th at the Call of Duty Next event as well as the subsequent multiplayer beta.
