Luke Cage and Jessica Jones were part of Marvel’s Netflix lineup prior to the creation of the Disney+ streaming service, with solo shows and as members of the Defenders. The Marvel shows on Netflix were all discontinued once Disney+ went live - but the actors are teasing their return to the MCU.

Among the Defenders, only Matt Murdock, aka Daredevil, has a show on Disney+. He also appeared in Spider-Man: No Way Home. With Daredevil already returning to the MCU, fans are hoping that the other members of the Defenders will soon follow.
Actors Krysten Ritter and Mike Colter recently teased fans about returning to play Jessica Jones and Luke Cage for the MCU. The pair posted photos together on Instagram, sparking rumors of a reunion.
Ritter shared a bunch of photos of her with Colter on her Instagram stories. The photos were presumably taken somewhere in Los Angeles. One photo referred to Colter as "Power Man, “ one of Cage’s titles in the Marvel comic books.
This is not the first time that Colter and Ritter teased fans about the possibility of coming back to the MCU. The pair have shared similar photos throughout the past few years. Since they haven't rejoined the MCU in that time, fans shouldn't get their hopes too high this time around either.
What projects can Luke Cage and Jessica Jones join?
Marvel has not announced any plans for Ritter and Colter’s return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, Charlie Cox’s Daredevil: Born Again series on Disney+ can be a possible entry point for Jessica Jones and Luke Cage. There are already rumors that Frank Castle aka Punisher may make an appearance in the upcoming TV show.
Ritter’s Jessica Jones could also act as a mentor for Maya Lopez aka Echo. Marvel can use the TV series as a launchpad for more roles for Jones within the MCU continuity. Fans would be delighted if Marvel decided to bring back the Defenders given their popularity on Netflix.
Disney could do a special presentation for the team and expand on their roles later on. Marvel reportedly has a grand plan for every possible character on the roster appear in Avengers: Secret Wars.
Ritter also caused speculation of her return to the MCU after posting workout pictures. Marvel actors have routinely shared photos and videos of themselves training for their MCU roles, starting something of an internal tradition.
Hopefully, Marvel has more plans for Luke Cage and Jessica Jones down the line. However, fans shouldn’t really keep their hopes up as Disney wants to focus more on quality than quantity with some TV shows being pushed back to 2024.
