The Twitterverse is abuzz with talk that Xbox Game Pass Ultimate will get Elden Ring and Grand Theft Auto V, among other games. Fueling the speculation is a couple of errant store pages and ads of the said games sporting the branding for Game Pass and Xbox Cloud Gaming. But, it appears that Microsoft is aware of this and has since already updated the concerned pages.
Apparently, this was all sadly due to a bug.
Here's what a Microsoft spokesperson had to say about the issue in a statement:
We're aware of a bug that incorrectly displayed some titles as available with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. We rolled out a fix and this is now updated.
You can go ahead and check the Xbox store yourself right now. You'll find that GTA 5 as well as Elden Ring and the other games involved no longer list support for cloud streaming.
Xbox Cloud Gaming, as well as cloud-based gaming in general, is an excellent alternative to traditional gaming. In theory, the service lets you jump into particular games without having to dedicate a huge amount of storage space. It's not necessarily perfect and it's not without its quirks. For example, you might no longer need to splurge on a powerful PC to enjoy the best games. However, you'll still need two things: a fast internet connection and an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription.
Both of these do not come cheap. In addition, most people who have both already have a specced-up PC. Finally, Xbox Cloud Gaming currently doesn't support a mouse and keyboard.
All of this will change in the future. For now, the verdict's still out if Xbox Cloud Gaming can live up to its potential.
Speaking of Microsoft, the tech giant will be at Gamescom 2022. Other companies that will be in Cologne, Germany, next week, are Unknown Worlds Entertainment and Ubisoft.
