We finally know which game will take over the usual big AAA fall slot for Sony's exclusive launch lineup later next year. After God of War: Ragnarok very nearly won the GOTY award (and got a live-action adaptation), Marvel's Spider-Man 2 will be swinging into PS5 consoles sometime next fall.

Sony usually has at least one AAA title scheduled to come out during the holiday season. As we mentioned, this year saw the critically-acclaimed God of War sequel roll out. Last year, it was Deathloop, which also received critical acclaim. Then, two years ago, the games were a pair of launch titles for the PS5, Demon's Souls, and Marvel's Miles Morales. Next year, it's going to be Marvel's Spider-Man 2's turn.

Sony first revealed Marvel's Spider-Man 2 at last year's September 2021 State of Play event alongside Marvel's Wolverine, among others. After giving Miles Morales and Peter Parker their turn in the spotlight, the sequel will bring both Spider-Man (or is it Spider-Men?) into the foray as they take on a much larger threat.
Now that the two are finished putting the Sinister Six behind bars, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 will introduce Venom as the main big baddie. It's possible that the Green Goblin will make his debut inside Insomniac Games' Spider-Man universe as well.
Unfortunately, the release of Marvel's Spider-Man 2 next fall all but confirms that Sony and Square Enix will release Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth at the tail end of its winter release window.
Speaking of universes, Insomniac Games' Peter Parker (and possibly Miles Morales as well) were recently spotted in the first official trailer for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. The animated film will hit theaters on June 2.
