- Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is set to release on the PlayStation 5 in October, featuring both Peter Parker and Miles Morales as playable characters.
- The game's developers, including Senior Creative Director Bryan Intihar, aim to provide players with the ultimate fantasy of being Spider-Man, with swinging as a key element.
- Following the success of the 2018 title, expectations are high for Marvel's Spider-Man 2, which is anticipated to reach similar heights.
Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is a little over a month away. It will undoubtedly be one of the biggest releases this year when it arrives. Ahead of its release, Senior Creative Director Bryan Intihar and Game Director Ryan Smith had a conversation with Inverse.
During the interview, Intihar opened up on how they approached the game's development. Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is the third installment in the video game series of the same name.
Each of the previous two games opened up with swinging and Intihar revealed it is by design and arises out of their desire to deliver the ultimate fantasy to Spider-Man fans. The veteran director also hinted that the upcoming title will toe the same line.
In his words, "There's a reason the previous games open up with swinging right away. That's the ultimate fantasy. One of the things we set out to do from day one was honor the fact that being Spider-Man is such a fantasy for so many people. They say anybody can wear the mask, but we want anybody to wear the mask and be good at wearing the mask at the same time. The barrier of entry should be pretty low."
Marvel's Spider-Man 2 was announced in 2021. The game is the sequel to the 2018 title Marvel's Spider-Man, which was lauded by critics and highly popular with audiences. Even though it came out in a year with many notable titles, the game held its own and even received a nomination for the Game of the Year.
Because of the first game's success, all eyes are on Marvel's Spider-Man 2. If nothing else, many of us expect it to reach the same heights as the first title. From what we've seen of the trailer, we are tempted to think it will. But then, there is no way to tell for sure until we get our hands on it and give it a spin.
As part of promotions for the title, Sony launched a Spider-Man-themed limited edition PlayStation 5 console and Dual Sense controller earlier this month. This move, and another of the company's marketing efforts a few days later, have further heightened anticipations for the title.
Apart from the standard edition, Sony will also release a Digital Deluxe Edition and a Collector's Edition of the action-adventure title. The Digital Deluxe Edition will come with several perks, including extra frames, two extra skill points, stickers for the game's Photo Mode feature, and several unique suits for Peter Parker and Miles Morales.
Marvel's Spider-Man 2 will release exclusively on the PlayStation 5 on October 20.
This is the way you do it. You allow both young and old fans to enjoy it!
Peter will always be the OG. I don't mind them introducing a new character but I am glad they are not erasing Peter Parker.
I feel like this may end up being the game of the year. So hyped for it for real!!
